The 2017 Sunday Times EFG Short Story Award

Prizes: First prize is worth £30,000. There will be five runners-up prizes of £1,000 each.
Notes: Open to any story of up to 6,000 words written in English. The Award is open to authors writing in the English language, aged 18 years or over at the time of submission, who must have been previously published in the English language in the UK or Ireland.

The Ouen Press Short Story Competition

Notes: The short story must be true. It should be based around a journey – at any time, of any distance, in any setting. Children’s Novel Competition 2016

Each of the three winners will receive five copies of the anthology.
Notes: The novella-in-flash must be in between 7,000 and 18,000 words long. Entry fee is £16.00. Entries can be on any theme or subject but must be original and written in English. They must also be for adult or young adult readers.

Novella-T

Notes: Pay contributors half of what we make in subscriptions, publishes novellas through a serialized format. Each week we send out a 2,000-5,000 word section of the story to subscribers, 13,000 and 40,000 words


Grants and Residencies

2017 Kathy Fish Fellowship
Deadline: September 15, 2016
Prizes: The winner of the 2017 Kathy Fish Fellowship will be considered a “writer-in-residence” at SmokeLong (note: position is virtual) for four quarterly issues (March, June, September, and December 2017). Each issue will include one flash by the Fellowship winner.
The winner of the Fellowship will also receive $500.00, to be paid as follows: $100.00 on announcement of the winner, and $100.00 upon publication of each of the four issues in 2017.
Notes: There is no application fee, but a $5 donation is suggested. Writers are eligible who: have not been previously published by SmokeLong, do not have a chapbook or a book-length work published or under contract (in any genre, self-published works included), are 18 years or older
