The Cultured Vultures competition

3rd Ó Bhéal Five Words Poetry Competition
Deadline: The competition runs for 41 weeks, until the last week of January 2016.
Prizes: The winner will receive 500 euros and an invitation to read at Ó Bhéal’s ninth anniversary event in April, 2016. The shortlisted poems and winning entry will also be published in their next annual anthology of five word poems.
Notes: They will post five words every Tuesday at noon (GMT). Entrants then have one week to submit poems (not exceeding 50 lines) that include all five words given for that week. It’s open to writers around the world and costs 5 euro to enter.

The 25th International Radio Playwriting Competition
Deadline: 31st of January, 2016.
Prizes: The playwright of the best play written with English as a first language, and the playwright of the best play written with English as a second language will both receive £2200. They will also win a trip to London to see the play being recorded for broadcast on the BBC World Service and to attend a prize-giving evening.

2016 CARNIVAL OF FLOWERS ONE-ACT PLAYWRITING COMPETITION

Creative Europe Playwriting Award for POP Drama.
Deadline: 31st March 2016
Prizes: The overall winner will have their play translated into the four different languages of the project partners (UK, Romania, Italy and Spain) and the piece of work will be toured professionally.
Notes: Each author can submit more than one play for the award, open to anyone who was born or currently resides in any of the recognised EU countries, 40-60 pages

The Soundwork Audio Playscript Competition
Deadline: April 30th, 2016.
Prizes: The winner, in collaboration with Soundwork, will have their play recorded and posted on the website.

Novel Writing Competitions

The Wilbur Smith Adventure Prize
Deadline: 25th of January 2016
Prize: The winner will be given an opportunity to complete a creative writing residency at a prestigeous university, plus career guidance from Wilbur Smith’s literary agents.
Notes: Free to enter, looking for unpublished adventure novels, of up to 50,000 words.

The Fresher Writing Prize
Deadline: 31st January 2016.
Prizes: Prizes include a one to one with literary agent, a professionally produced podcast of your work, a book vouchers and more. The shortlisted entrants will have their entries published in the Fresher Writing 2016 Anthology, and will be invited to the book launch and Fresher Writing Prize Awards held in May 2016.
Notes: Entry fee is £6 per entry, In addition to providing your 500 words please submit a 2 page synopsis of your novel. Entrants are also requested to have the full manuscript available from 31st January 2016 in case they wish to see more.

Lucy Cavendish College Fiction Prize

Notes: Sky Academy will again award one scholarship to an artist living in ROI, aged 18 – 30.
