Monday Roundup!

This week’s Monday Roundup has a lot more poetry and a few more flash fiction competitions (including our “101” competition. Only nine hours left to enter! We just couldn’t resist reminding you). It has a couple more novel competitions and some really good submissions opportunities! Hopefully, you’ll find something that suits whatever you’re writing. Books Ireland in association with IMRAM short story competition

Deadline: 30 June 2015
Prizes: two categories each have a first prize of €400, a second prize of €200 and a third prize of €100. First prize stories will be published in a future issue of Books Ireland and overall winners will have the opportunity to attend a creative writing workshop. (First prize in the English language category is a place on the Kiltrumper Writing Workshop facilitated by Niall Williams.)

Rocky Coast Writing Contest

Fictuary’s Short Story Contest

2015 Ilkley Literature Festival Writing Competitions

Glimmer Train’s Very Short Fiction Award

Luke Bitmead Bursary

Deadline: 1st August
Prize: A publishing contract with Legend Press and a £2,500 cash bursary
Notes: Adult novels only, novels must be already completed before entry, novels must be 50k words or over to be considered, £10 entry fee per submission

Women’s Novel Competition 2015

Deadline: 21st Sept 2015
Prizes: 1st prize: £5,000
The winner and four other finalists will receive manuscript feedback from The Literary Consultancy and and an invitation to a special networking event with literary agents.
Notes: Entry fee: £25 per novel, novel can be in any genre, but must be for adult or young adult readers, at least 50,000 words.

Penny Dreadful Novella Prize

Deadline: 30th of September.
Prize: €2,000 for the winning author and publication of their novella by The Dreadful Press.
Notes: between 15,000 and 35,000 words, entry fee is €10 per manuscript at a maximum of two manuscripts per entry. Entries are open to residents of Ireland and the UK only

The Beth Children’s novel award

Deadline: midnight GMT on October 11th 2015
Prize: £1,000 plus Minerva trophy
Notes: Novels can be in any genre for children who are able to read for themselves or young adult readers
There are no minimum or maximum word count restrictions, however as a guide, they recommend 6-10,000 for a chapter book, 40-60,000 for middle grade and 50-70,000 words for YA, entrants should not have had a novel, for any age group, accepted for publication by a traditional publishing house, independently published novelists are eligible.

The Caledonia Novel Award

Deadline: 1st November, 2015
Prizes: The winner will receive £1,000 and a trophy
Notes: entry fee is £20. Novels can be any genre for adults or Y/A, but must be original and at least 50,000 words long. Entrants must not have had a novel published, including self-published, or have entered into a contract for future publication of their novel.

Imes/Chicken House Children’s Fiction Competition

Deadline: Friday 18th December 2015
Prizes: Worldwide publishing deal with Chicken House, with an advance of £10,000 (subject to contract).
All longlisted entrants will receive a reader’s report of their work.
Notes: Full-length novel suitable for children aged somewhere between 7 and 18 years; minimum of 30,000 words and ask that manuscripts entered do not exceed 80,000 words in length. Entry fee is £15.
