Dublin Art Book Fair 2015

About: This November 18th to 22nd Temple Bar Gallery + Studios presents the fifth edition of the Dublin Art Book Fair, taking place as part of VIEW – Temple Bar Arts and Politics Weekend and Irish Year of Design 2015. Over four days the Dublin Art Book Fair offers book lovers a curated selection of the latest in art, design, photography and related books by over 50 different Irish and International publishers.

Meet the Ghostwriters with Vincent Hogan and Malachy Clerkin

Address: The Back Page (199 Phibsborough Road) at 6.30pm
About: Two prominent Irish sports ghostwriters run us through the trials, tribulations and triumphs of writing someone else’s story form their own point of view. Doors open both nights at 6.30pm, each event starts at 7pm and admission is free.

Cave Paintings

About: Cave Writings is proud to present Cave Paintings, an experiment in arts and letters and how they are being used in Ireland today. Cave Paintings is an exhibition of fruit grown from the cross-fertilisation of various artistic disciplines that are thriving in Dublin today.

Book Launch: The Space Between

About: All are welcome to the launch of Kate Dempsey’s debut full collection published by Doire Press. The poems in The Space Between are acute observations on everyday incidents in relationships or the domestic.

Book Launch: Distance

About: All are welcome to the launch of ‘Distance, the début poetry collection by Ron Carey. The collection will be launched by Jane Clarke. Distance announces Ron Carey as a poet of honesty, skill and directness.

Elizabeth Gilbert in conversation with Róisín Ingle
Date: Thursday 26th November
Address: Liberty Hall Theatre at 7pm
About: Readers of all ages and walks of life have drawn inspiration and empowerment from Elizabeth Gilbert’s books. Now this beloved author digs deep into her own generative process to share her wisdom and unique perspective about creativity.

Big Smoke Writing Factory Winter Literary Cafe

Date: Sunday, 6th December

About:The annual Big Smoke Winter Literary Cafe takes place on Sunday 6th of December from 3pm-6pm in Arthur’s Pub on Thomas Street. It’s the highlight of our social calendar and an opportunity for friends, students and teachers to come together, experience some wonderful music, prose & poetry and celebrate the season. The evening will be a mixture of readings from established writers as well as our own students & teachers. The event is completely free and open to anyone & everyone who wishes to attend. Do come along on the night & please feel free to tell your friends! We hope to see you soon!

Open Mic

Flying South
Date: Last Friday of every month.

About:Flying South is a free, monthly, mental health themed arts and open mic night. All forms of spoken word are welcome – poetry, comedy, drama, performance, and storytelling as well as those who would just like to come along to listen & maybe have a chat. Free tea, coffee and sweets!

Cave Writings
Date: Every two weeks (Next event is Monday 12th October)

About: Cave Writings is a nomadic tribe of creatives of various mediums who regularly come together and share their work. Primarily writers, we are also artists, scientists and filmmakers who come, speak and share ideas.

FRESH Poetry Slam
Date: TBC
Address: Dublin Food Co-op, 12 Newmarket Square, Dublin 8
About: Fresh is a poetry slam competition with live spoken word and is hosted by Aidan Murphy and Edel Doran. There is an open sign-up for poets with twelve getting to compete. Prizes are issued to five poets as a percentage of door takings.

Slam Sunday
Date: Monthly
Address: Accents Coffee and Tea Lounge, 23 Stephen Street Lower, Dublin 2 at 7.30PM
About:Slam Sunday is a monthly spoken word poetry competition. Entry is open to anyone on the night, and contestants are chosen at random. Cash prizes are awarded for top 3 poets on the night.

The Circle Sessions
Date: Every Monday night.
Address: The International Bar, Exchequer Street, Dublin 2 at 8:00PM (Doors 7PM)
About: A night of spoken word poetry, storytelling, music and performance. Free Admission.

Dublin’s Underground Beat
Date: Every Wednesday night.
Address: The International Bar on Wicklow Street from 8PM to midnight.
About: A free night of music and poetry with spoken word and music performers. Six acts perform, followed by an open mic to all.

Mountains to Sea – dlr Book Festival 2016
Date: March 9th to 13th
Address: County Hall, Marine Road, Dún Laoghaire, Co.Dublin
About: Mountains to Sea is a literary festival for readers of all ages and interests. Headlining the festival will be Michael Parkinson in conversation with his son Michael. This will be preceded by a special event on 2nd February 2016 when the iconic author John Irving discuses his new book Avenue of Mysteries with John Boyne.
