Dublin Book Festival

About:The Dublin Book Festival is one of Ireland’s most successful and vibrant book festivals, running since June 2006. The annual public Festival showcases, supports and develops Irish Publishing by programming, publicising and selling Irish published books, their authors, editors and contributors all in an entertaining, festive, friendly and accessible environment that reflects the creativity and personality of the Irish Publishing sector and its authors.

Bogmans Cannon Fiction Disco
Date: Friday, November 13, 2015
Address: Toners of Baggot Street from 7:30 PM to 11:30 PM
About:Bogmans Cannon will be hosting the very first FICTION DISCO. Reading on the night will be June Caldwell, Alan McMonagle and Kevin Curran. The readings will be followed by a bring-your-own-tune disco (yes bring your own tune on your device and we’ll play it. Anything goes.) Mc’ed by Dave Lordan and Karl Parkinson of The Bogmans Cannon, with sound support by Peter Sheekey.

Recovered Voices – ‘The Uninvited’ by Dorothy Macardle (Tramp Press)
Date: Friday 13 November
Address: The Gutter Bookshop, Temple Bar from 6.30pm
About: Tramp Press is launching the second title in their Recovered Voices series. The Uninvited is a bone-chilling Gothic ghost story from novelist, playwright and political activist Dorothy Macardle (1889–1958). The Recovered Voices series is committed to rescuing forgotten literature and to re-engaging with writers whose work is still valuable, relevant and brilliant.

The Day Of The Imprisoned Writer

About: Front Line Defenders and Irish PEN will come together to mark the annual Day of the Imprisoned Writer at the Smock Alley Theatre, Dublin 8.

Elizabeth Gilbert in conversation with Róisín Ingle
Date: Thursday 26th November
Address: Liberty Hall Theatre at 7pm
About: Readers of all ages and walks of life have drawn inspiration and empowerment from Elizabeth Gilbert’s books. Now this beloved author digs deep into her own generative process to share her wisdom and unique perspective about creativity.

Flying South
Date: Last Friday of every month.

About:Flying South is a free, monthly, mental health themed arts and open mic night. All forms of spoken word are welcome – poetry, comedy, drama, performance, and storytelling as well as those who would just like to come along to listen & maybe have a chat. Free tea, coffee and sweets!

Cave Writings
Date: Every two weeks (Next event is Monday 12th October)

About: Cave Writings is a nomadic tribe of creatives of various mediums who regularly come together and share their work. Primarily writers, we are also artists, scientists and filmmakers who come, speak and share ideas.

FRESH Poetry Slam
Date: TBC
Address: Dublin Food Co-op, 12 Newmarket Square, Dublin 8
About: Fresh is a poetry slam competition with live spoken word and is hosted by Aidan Murphy and Edel Doran. There is an open sign-up for poets with twelve getting to compete. Prizes are issued to five poets as a percentage of door takings.

Slam Sunday
Date: Monthly
Address: Accents Coffee and Tea Lounge, 23 Stephen Street Lower, Dublin 2 at 7.30PM
About:Slam Sunday is a monthly spoken word poetry competition. Entry is open to anyone on the night, and contestants are chosen at random. Cash prizes are awarded for top 3 poets on the night.

The Circle Sessions
Date: Every Monday night.
Address: The International Bar, Exchequer Street, Dublin 2 at 8:00PM (Doors 7PM)
About: A night of spoken word poetry, storytelling, music and performance. Free Admission.

Dublin’s Underground Beat
Date: Every Wednesday night.
Address: The International Bar on Wicklow Street from 8PM to midnight.
About: A free night of music and poetry with spoken word and music performers. Six acts perform, followed by an open mic to all.

Big Smoke Writing Factory Winter Literary Cafe

About:The annual Big Smoke Winter Literary Cafe takes place on Sunday 6th of December from 3pm-6pm in Arthur’s Pub on Thomas Street. It’s the highlight of our social calendar and an opportunity for friends, students and teachers to come together, experience some wonderful music, prose & poetry and celebrate the season. The evening will be a mixture of readings from established writers as well as our own students & teachers. The event is completely free and open to anyone & everyone who wishes to attend. Do come along on the night & please feel free to tell your friends! We hope to see you soon!
